CHS Anti-Racism Network

Mission: The Central High School Anti-Racism Network aims to help make Central a safe and anti-racist space through education and advocacy.

We are: Parents and guardians of current students at Central High School in Philadelphia, PA

We believe that:
  • Racism exists in our society. It is present every single day and causes harm. Eliminating racism takes work.
  • Dismantling racism helps everyone.
  • Racism shows up in schools in different ways. Some are overt. Others are underlying. Both need to be addressed.
  • There is much to learn from the experiences of people of color at Central including students, teachers, administrators, and alumni.
  • We must work with other people and groups within the Central community committed to these goals.
Our activities include, but are not limited to: Education
  • Sharing anti-racism resources with the Central community
  • Arranging programs and activities for parents to learn more about racism in schools
Advocacy
  • Working with other Central groups to identify and undo racism at Central
  • Promoting the activities of other Central groups focused on anti-racism or diversity
    • Helping spread the word about programs
    • Recruiting volunteers when possible
    • Serving as a sounding board or other kind of resource as needed
Self-Improvement
  • Looking within ourselves at our own role in a racist society
    • Watching videos, listening to podcasts, or reading articles about racism and racism in schools
  • Seeking to be more actively anti-racist in our outlook and actions
